Title: Something interesting under the pickups.
Post by: jazzyvee on December 16, 2009, 09:50:01 AM
I was giving my bass the once over this morning in prep for my forthcoming tour, I'm sure i noticed this before but never thought much about it until I saw it again today.

There is a message written on the wood under the lacquer beneath the bridge pickup on my Europa, so must have been done at the factory rather than by a previous owner.

It says:  Proudly made in the USA some initials that I can't really decifer and the year 97

Here is a shot.

Anyone else found any interesting words/markings in their instruments whilst servicing or tweaking it.?

Mica may even recognise the initials as made by someone in the construction process.

That's really cool!.I bet whoever put it there has often wondered if it would be discovered and I really like the idea that an Alembic employee took it upon themselves to add a little of their heart to an already beautiful instrument.

Best of luck with the tour!.

Simon.

Hey Jazzy, I think it's really amazing that they also put a picture of you under there!  They must have been psychic to have known in advance that you would eventually own this bass.  Is there anything Alembic can't do?  lol

Hey hey, does this make my Epic a Signature?  Truss rod cavity:

Flag waving proud in neck pickup cavity:

  Bridge pickup cavity:

I've lived with the instrument for 15 years, and the only thing I'd noticed was trhe signature near the trussrods ...  On my 88 Spoiler there's just a number and the initials JF in the neck pickup cavity (sorry for the blurry pic):

So the handpainted flags date after 1988, perhaps earlier than 1994?

Mario:

That's Bill & Mica's son, Erik.  Remember, this is California, we're all hippies out here!  lol

Also JF (James Fisher, he carved the bass according to Mica) in my '88 Spoiler:

No pics yet of the other basses, but if I recall correctly there are only numbers on those.

I was on eBay looking at Gibsons a few years back and noticed my last on a control cavity cover of a VERY nice SG from the 60's, wonder if I could find it and claim it as my own :-D

Ooops, sorry about that Erick.

You don't know how I got mad when someone did this confusion with me when I was a kid, Bill. I was born in may '68 and, depite my parents weren't hippies, I also had long hair during the 70s and many people took me as a little indian girl (I am half japanese)...
