Just spotted that one....
Oh man, Honey, you were asking what I would like for Christmas....
LoL!
-
can i get a loan? and a trade in on a strat that i just upgraded.
-
DAAAAaaaang. You're not helping my addiction too much Mike!
-
OK really. I wanna know who is seriously interested in this piece. I'm gettin a real bad itch for this fine creation. I'm sure my wife will say no (to put it mildly). But I think I gotta go for this one somehow.
-
I'm only wishing...go for it.
DAAAAaaaang is putting it mildly.
-
But, Doc, it SO matches my eight string.
dw
-
That looks like a tone monster. I am surprised it is in such good condition as someone ought to be playing the heck out of it.
-
As much as I'd love to have it Doc, it's all yours.
That is a very nice bass.
-
The bass appeared on Eldery's list.
The serial No. is 124.
And It was discussed at this thread (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=15066).

I yield to Doc as well. But, I'm behind him in line.
dw
-
you know. There is just no good way to present something like this to your wife. She's even a bass player and I know she still won't understand.
But you already have a fretless Alembic. she'll say.
Anybody got a good line I can use.
-
It was a Christmas gift from David? Just don't tell her I made you pay for it.
dw
-
Hmmm... does anyone else remember the Roman Conqueror??? and it's infamous tale?
-
She's a BASS player 'eh? Buy it for her for Christmas, I mean it's in the family that way.
-
I really like that angle. But she wouldn't play it because it doesn't have enough strings. She plays a five string and won't touch anything that has less than five strings.
I like David's angle too. Just wish I knew how much that Christmas Bonus is going to actually be.
-
Well I hope you are able to make it happen Doc, either you or David or at least a club member. These instruments need to be played not hung on a wall.
-
He David. Does it really match your VIII string or are you just yankin' my chain?
-
If I can figure out the technical side, look at this: http://club.alembic.com/Images/395/31452.html?1159764584 (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=14012)
Hey, I have my share. I'll yield to others who don't have theirs, or guys like you or TK who have helped me get my share. BUT, if none of them is interested, I'm in.

I should know by tomorrow if I can pull this off or not. With all that ornate work though, I have a feeling it might go high.
-
If it were a small body, I would be in the running. Very sweet indeed. How 'bout that power supply!!
-
What a great kind of vintage Alembic!
It it wasn't a frettless and the seller would also ship international I would jump on.

Looking closely, it's either been back to the factory for upgrades, or someone else worked on it. The adjustable nut wasn't around back in '74. Also there appears to be some type of string guide posts added to the headstock. This is a pretty cool mod, IMHO that deals with one common characterisic of some early Alembics - the tuning machines were spaced in a manner that resulted in the strings touching each other after they went over the nut, on the way to the tuners. (My '76 Series 1 guitar has this). The brass thumbrest on the corner of the bridge pickup is tres cool!

I was thinking the same thing. This bass has a whole lot of cool. Definitely a distinct instrument.

Wow....
Very nice looking wood.
The backplates are absolutely amazing. And how about that bridge/sustain block...
Does anyone know anything about the pictures on the back plates?
Lovely bass.

It's killin me. But I can't do it. If I bought it, my son would have to grow up without a father.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH......
MAn I hope it turns up again.
-
you guys are lucky its a 4 string
i;d be all over this like a bad cold if it were a 5
-
Only 2 hours left! Tempting, but I'm going to pass. Got my eye on something else (non-Alembic)...
-
I'm probably in. I have a price in mind that the market may top, though. But, that's what auctions are for.
-
Go DW GO. Do it. And then let me know when you're ready to have another person take care of it.
-
Yeah, David, go for her ! all the best,
Christian
-
I'd love to have a fretless Alembic but now is not the right time for me. Go for it David and good luck.
-
20+ minutes. It's killin me. I can't watch. I hope you get it David.
-
Gone! $4727 PPhuuuufffff. Not me!
NLP
-
I could make the case for this being a $5K bass, but not for me. Only bad part is that I am heading to NYC tomorrow and was going to pick it up.
dw
-
did it at least stay in the family?
-
Alright. Now I've really got Fretless Series Fever. If anyone sees another, please post and let me know.
-
Define family?
-
Posting Family. Current / Previous Owners Family
-
BTW amedine, are you the proud new owner of this fine work of craftsmanship?
-
Doc, Yes, I am. Let me introduce myself. I have played bass since 1963. Any instrument I buy will get played. It was nearly too much to pay, but my sons are out of college! I am new to Alembic, although I have read much about the company and the basses. I play Gibson (EB-2), Tobias (Killer B), and Fender (precision) basses but I am sure the Alembic will become an important part of my low-end. Allen
-
it will be THE big part of your bass life
great bass
-
Welcome to the family. I am jealous of your acqusition. As are a few others I think. And of course, your afore mentioned girlfriends will soon become very jealous.
As well, now I'll get to see my son go to college from here on earth and I won't have to watch it from Heaven.
-
I've wandered around the Club posts for the last two days and it looks like a very nice family, indeed. You are likely right about my girlfriends!! Thanks for the welcome.
-
Congratulations! That's a really fine looking and interesting bass. If you have any questions, this is the place to ask - a very knowledgable bunch. Don't forget to post in the showcase section when you get it in your hands and post pictures and soundclips if possible!
-
CONGRATS..AND WELCOME. BE SURE TO USE THE SHOWCASE SECTION TO POST MORE PICS OF THAT BEAUTY.
NLP
-
and if for any reason you need to un-burden yourself from this specimen, please feel free to post.
-
Welcome, and indeed a very nice instrument. You really joined the family in style!
Olie
-
Welcome and congratulations! There are some other Coloradans (wild guess at spelling) in the family as well as good folks from all over the globe. Enjoy your new instrument.
Mike
-
And a big welcome from the runner up to the runner up. A very nice bass and a great acquisition.

Wait a minute, his first Alembic is this wonderful old beauty? Not sure I like this guy!
Well done amedine, she looks like a special piece.
You'll recover most of your purchase price once you play her and sell all those other bass thingies you now own. DOH!
Welcome & Congrats!
-
David, Gary, Mike, Olie, Doc, Normand, Harry and Jeff,
Thanks for all your kind words, and encouragement regarding my transition to the Alembic perspective. I am looking forward to the journey. However, when I die, you will still have to pry my fingers off my first bass, EB-2 (1968), that I have played, and still play, for nearly 40 years (the Kalamazoo didn't count). I am sure some of those bass thingies I own will move on to less enlightened individuals. Allen
-
EB-2? Hey! He's older than I am. WELCOME!!!!!
-
Allen. There is a verse in The Bible that says: Ye have not because ye ask not. So I'm gonna go out on a limb here. If you are still in possesion of this instrument upon the time of your passing, Would you put it in your will that your sons should sell the bass for a fair price to JamesDoc Greene?
OK I'll stop lusting & coveting now.
-
Hey J.
Yeah. when I worked at Gallien-Krueger, one of the amplifier engineers decided he wanted to be a bass player too. So I took him to Guitar Showcase and Introduced him to the owner. My buddy decided that a Series I was what he needed to learn to play bass on. Gary Wineroth had no Idea that he was beginner. After deciding to buy the bass, Gary told him he might want to look at straps and strings and stuff. I though Gary was gonna die though when my buddy asked him for a beginning bass book and video so he could learn how to play.
coincendentally, I believe that bass is just sitting on a stand.
