Here's vintage 1978 history for you!
Very nice.

A couple of things:  First, there doesn't appear to be a DS-5 power supply, so add the cost of a new one to the final cost of this guitar.  Also, the pickup selector knob on the lower horn doesn't appear original.  It also looks like it may have been modified in some manner.  I would certainly inquire about that.

Without the power supply, or any mention of it, I'd suspect the seller hasn't played this a lot and may not know a lot about Alembics.  It is probable that the 1/4 jack is wired stereo, so, without the power supply, the seller likely only could test the neck pickup, so I'd wonder about the claim that:

GUITAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND PLAYS AND SOUNDS LIKE A DREAM !!!!

Assuming the electronics are in good order, (and even then it might need a $1500 upgrade if it picks up rf interference - though my '76 Series I guitar, very similar to this one, hasn't had the upgrade and I've had no problems), the current price and then a little more is certainly fair, especially with the road case.

The pickup selector switch is very much original.  It is just that the plastic covering has broken off.  I have that on a couple of my basses!  When the chicken head gets cracks in it, it will eventually twist off in your hand leaving that round piece of aluminum held to the shaft with the allen set screws.  I actually like the feel of that over the pointy chicken head.

I've tossed my hat in the ring on this one, though I don't know how high I'll go. I just took delivery of a beautiful '78 maple Mockingbird and I've got an even prettier '80 Koa Supreme on the way. Funds are a bit tied up for now, but I'll see. Bill's point about the power supply is well taken and I'll wait to hear from the seller before increasing my max bid.

Good luck Jonathan.  I know you've been lusting for a Series I for a while, I hope this one works out for you.

Michael, thanks for settting me straight on the chicken head innards.  It does look kind of cool!
