Title: Lookee what I just picked up on ebay
Post by: lbpesq on November 14, 2006, 12:22:50 AM
I've been looking for one of these for a long time.  It actually has two pickups - single coils- and a dummy humcanceller in the middle.  Sound familiar?

Oh yea, I almost forgot.  It's an Aria Pro II Rev Sound RS 850, probably '79 or '80.  Runs on 18 volts too!

Right on!!!

Is this one going to get all bells & whistles like the Fernandes?!?

That 12th fret kind of looks like a doobie already....

This one will likely stay stock.  The electronics in the Fernandes were lunched when I found it, so that inspired the makeover.  This one looks (and, according to the seller, is) in quite good condition.  Also, I don't want to wait another two years!  This will join the neck-thru family all on its own.

Elwoowblue:

Very nice.  Is that a top-o-the-line Musician there?  It looks like it has the Ibanez active electronics with the 3 band eq.  Congrats!

It's fretted up to the 12th, and fretless above.

Elwood:

So am I, but don't worry, I won't be bidding unless it stays at the current $450 (which I doubt will happen).  For self-satisfaction reasons, I'd like to see it sell at or near what I just paid for mine.  By the way, the one you're following is a later vintage than mine, probably '81-'83.  The info I've found says they were made 1979-1982 or '83.  The headstock changed from in-line 6 (like mine) to 3 per side (like yours?) about the middle of the run.  Mine arrives next Friday.  Enjoy the Ibanez.

 Bill,
I'm going to hope you get this one too,
I just bought a few dandy instruments and should spend some time with them.

I just recieved a swart amplifier,if you get a chance to play one...they are very nice.

...Late 70's ,early 80's matsumoku mojo...
The neck thru's were well made and they are still somewhat affordable. Ibanez is the most familiar name; they sold under alot of names depending which country they were destined .
...I'm sure someone else can chime in with some more info.
(I see an 'electa' custom agent just popped up on ebay)
cheers

My Aria arrived today.  Safe, sound and in tune!  Very nice guitar.  I like the neck much better than the Ibanez Musician I recently traded.  It's also a bit lighter than the Musician.  The construction differs from Alembic in that the body wings are solid ash - no top or bottom bread on the sandwich.  It has filters and 3-way Q switches, like Alembic.  The Musician I had was passive, and the active version of the Musician is merely a pre-amp and 3-band EQ.  As far as taking a cue from Alembic, Aria did a much better job than Ibanez IMHO.  I looking forward to getting it down to the studio and plugging into my reguilar rig.  If anyone runs into one of these, or the bass version for all you low-enders, definitely check it out.

Nice one Bill, this is the era of the Aria SB basses, looks pretty much like my SB700 (bass), well done!
Glad to see that many of you understand the value and superior craftsmanship of those fine disappearing breed.
