A '77 Series I bass just showed up on ebay. Looks like a nice one.

Cool leather gig bag and purpleheart top and back~
The new brass nut looks as though it isn't adjustable, so it's obviously not a factory refit. Also, is it just my monitor or is there a strange discoloration on the fretboard surrounding the 12th fret? It could just be some streaked ebony, but it sure looks wierd on my screen.

looks like a character mark to me. Damn The IRS. I'd love to snatch that thing up.

Yea Toby I see it too. Faded is the best way to describe it. Almost looks like finger imprints.
Other than that and the nut it looks nice though.

Being as these originally came with a non-adjustable nut, it might still be an Alembic nut, but the owner wanted to keep the instrument historically accurate. I asked Alembic about putting an adjustable nut on my '76 Series I guitar while it was in for a tune up. They suggested since it was working fine, I should just leave well enough alone. Suffice to say I took their advice.
The gig bag with this one is cool.

I was the prior owner of this bass. I sold it to the seller a few months ago. It plays awesomely. I sold it only because I bought an Alembic 5 string and have focused on 5'ers for the last year or so. Unless the seller changed the nut, it is the original and is not adjustable.

Did you list it on eBay Robert? I was thinking I saw it before.

I remember it now. Isn't this it? (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=14008)

I did. First I listed here for about 3 months, but got little interest.

I can't imagine why it was refretted. The frets were in excellent condition, as was the nut.
