here (http://cgi.ebay.com/EARLY-70s-ALEMBIC-CUSTOM-MADE-GUITAR-ONE-OF-A-KIND_W0QQitemZ290088351869QQihZ019QQcategoryZ119094QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem target=_blank)
...I remember reading about a similar instrument,
It makes sense for a lap steel maybe...never seen one tho...
-
Did I read that correctly? Is the seller saying that Alembic made the guitar? Wow
Sam
-
Nothing much to see that even suggests an Alembic connection - apart from the auction title. But what do I know.
-
I'm having a hard time picturing the folks over at Alembic holding rock chisels and hammers.
This now begs the question, Does Alembic have a special room where they age their rocks before carving? ;)

Not to mention it's a bolt-on. I don't think Alembic's ever done a bolt-on neck. And, of course, it doesn't have a logo and the electronics are all wrong. Hey, I know, it's an Olympic! LOL

I read a thing with Steve Parish where he indicated that in the early '70s someone made Jerry a guitar out of a tombstone, and Jer actually used it a couple of times.
Same one? I dunno but that's my $.02
-
That sure looks like a Tombstone. I wonder if it's it. This guy may not know what he has.
-
The headstock sure looks awkward for an Alembic.
-
Bill,
Susan said they've never done a bolt-on.
Never? I queried.
Never. she responded.

I can't believe my eyes...Alembic???Olympic pool floor sample maybe.
Tombstone for sure. Bolt on or not, even hollowed
out this thing has got to be a back breaker! wadda-u think? 14-15 pounds?

...if I remember right, the experiment in the 70's ended up in granite peices on the floor...
(of course creativity affects the memroy at times)
I'm guessing the auction will end early and resurface with an accurate title...Bam Bam Flinstone's guitar
-
Carved out of a rock???....it's so easy a Cave man can do it!
-
laughable, they will put any label on anything, on ebay to sell it. i've seen other basses with subtitles of alembic on them. be sensible, understand the flavourof instruments they make. after that, if your still unsure, the posts are here for everyone,or you can call. they are very helpful
-
Add wheels to the bottom of this thing. Then you can really rock 'n roll! hehehehe
Bill, tgo
-
Note that the 2 bidders on this thing are:
Bidder1 and Bidder2. Just a coincidence, I'm sure.
-
Phylo, that's just a private auction...they keep the IDs private until the end.
-
Can someone get Parish to look at the auction? I bet he'd know right away if it was the Jerry Stone guitar or not.
I am surprised Susan and Mica are letting the Alembic description ride, as it's completely not representative of Alembic work and craftsmanship. $.02
Bill I am sure this has been asked, what the heck does TGO mean? I've been playing with the acronym for a while now, and come up with nothing that makes sense.
-
I think ebay's new policy is to keep all bidders private in all auctions.

Paul,
Bill is in a small but ever expanding group around here: he's The Guitar One
Ken (The Elvish One)

Roger:
Your question posted as I was writing the above, so I didn't see it. Ken is indeed correct. When I started hanging out around here, it seemed as if every other denizen was either a Paul or a Bill. I was very impressed with the solution followed by our delightful brother across the waters, Paul, the bad one, aka Paul, tbo. I admittedly plagerized Paul and dubbed myself Bill, the guitar one, as the others were bass players.
Not very exciting, but it works.

Ah, Roger on that. Thanks Bill! I too am strictly an Alembic guitar one. I'll now return to the previously schduled thread...
I think this guitar would be an excellent defensive measure, if needed.
-
While Jerry did have someone make him a granite guitar in the 70's (we don't remember who), all we did was supply the electronics. Mom recalls it was dropped and broke into several pieces. She doesn't think any of them were big enough to become the guitar in the listing.
I have emailed the seller regarding the use of the Alembic name without any Alembic connection. I will report it through ebay's Verified Rights Owner program if I don't get a response today. I'm not a meanie - I like to give the seller a chance to correct the error before I sick the authorities on them.
