Now that's tempting.

This is the *exact* bass I'm looking for. I am trying to arrange with the owner to buy. The only problem is that it will have to be shipped and I will have to pay with paypal. Does anyone have experience with this and recommendations?

Devon, This is how I bought my Series 1, albeit from a club member(so there was at least a fair amount of legitimacy).Ultimately you have to have a supreme amount of trust in the seller being that you are not buying from ebay (although their support can't keep you totally protected). You should pay with your credit card as it will offer you potection against fraudelent charges that your debit card won't. Get all of his personal info. that you can get (home and work address, home and work phone #'s) and if there is any reluctance that's an obvious sign something is up. Have him deliver it from a UPS store and have him call you from the stores phone not his cell and talk to the clerk to confirm it. This is a lot of hard earned money being spent and he/she should not have a problem with these terms especially if you are paying him exactly what he wants. Now I'm not saying this is a guarantee, but I feel that an owner of these instruments putting them up for sale should be for the most part, legitimate. Take care and I hope all works out well for you.

Adam, thanks a lot for the advice. So far the guy has been extremely helpful and willing to work with my concerns. He is going to take it to truetone music in LA and a luthier will look at it and talk to me over the phone. We are going to try to get the store to handle the transaction for a small fee. Otherwise I will take your advice on payment and shipping. If all goes well I will own an Alembic!
-
Good luck Devon, Truetone is a very cool place, and with an excellent rep. Peace, James
-
Great news! I hope you snag it as that is a beautiful bass.
-
Missed it..... It's the girl that got away
-
Ahh Fret not
It did not go far. She is safe at my house getting a good cleaning and new strings. I will post the story behind this one tonight
-
ouch!.... NP I guess. At least it went to a fan instead of an ebayer.
-
True atleast a member got it
Please allow me to offer this, if for some reason this is not the Alembic for me I will sell it to you for what I paid.
-
Jon, that would be devine

Np
Got her all cleaned up, took like 5 hours to polish the brass, oil the fingerboard & polish the finish. Installed a new set of DR sunbeams. She playes very nice. Its basicly a MINT bass. Like the guy never used it.
Get back at you in a few days
Jon

Yeh, the guy told me it was basically near mint except some markings on he fretboard and and blemishes on the tuning pegs which he didn't know how to polish.
Tell me when you get sick of it! ;)
