Tempting, also because of the dollar to euro ratio...

That's the oldest Distillate bass I've seen without the face plate on the front

That's a nice looking bass. The tailpiece is a bit off center, though ;)

In case the reader doesn't catch the joke (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=3582).

I seriously doubt it's a 79. Those were not around back then. I think more like 89. The serial number listed is 789554 which is not a valid number. I think numbers have faded and are hard to read. The thin veneer under the top is typical of later Alembics.
The top is not wenge. Looks like coco bolo, possibly rosewood.
At any rate, a gorgeous instrument.

It has to be at least early '80's going by the upper horn which is noticably stubbier than later Distillates.

I returned this bass because it had the serial number removed, according to Mica. I got it for 2200 last time. They claimed it was a prototype and they would check into it before relisting it. Last time they had a bogus serial number, but I thought it was a typo. They are fully aware of this. (http://club.alembic.com/Images/395/41542.jpg)
