Here's (http://cgi.ebay.com/CUSTOM-BECVAR-8-STRING-BASS-GUITAR_W0QQitemZ280287527778QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar?hash=item280287527778&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318) an interesting new twist on Ebay. Bruce Becvar is auctioning off a copy of John Paul Jones 3x Omega that hasn't even been built yet!. The winner can pay for the bass up front, $18,000, and then Bruce will build it.

That's interesting on a lot of levels.

OMG...that's my absolute dream bass. Now if only I had $18000....

I reported that to eBay when I saw it. The basic concept of the auction is misleading and someone will probably buy it before they read the fine print. It should be an auction for the full price with the terms specified as first $4K down, remainder on completion. eBay will probably kill him for fee evasion, if nothing else. He's trying to sell an $18K item and only pay fees on $4K of it.

I am glad he put the auction up. I was trying to get in touch with him for years.

I'm confused... who's design is the triple omega? Did JPJ buy his 8 string bass from Alembic or BB? I had always assumed JPJ's 8 string was an Alembic.
