Title: Series I at Daddy's Junky Music in Boston
Post by: edwin on February 15, 2009, 07:01:26 PM
There's a really nice Series I at Daddy's on Mass Ave in Boston. It's in decent shape from early 1978. It's a little fancier on the woods than mine and may be a medium scale. The action could use some work. They want $6k, but will probably talk. I should have taken a picture, it's a beautiful bass.

I have more pics from Brad, the salesman I spoke with this morning. The DS5 looks to be in good shape, as does the blue hard case. He did not picture the cable but says it too is intact.
I was told that a 10% deposit would be required to hold the bass, and that $400 would suffice. The $6K asking price is deliberately optimistic, so I would take this to mean that a serious cash offer of $4K might be accepted.

Spoke with Brad at Daddy's and asked that he measure the neck. At first he told me that it was 16 inches, but after seeing the pics and asking him to measure it again, he confirmed that it was actually a 34-inch long scale. By the way, they have the power supply and the case

Spoke to Brad mentioned that there was a crack on headstock where it fell but not completely threw, also mentioned frets might need repair or refret. Price is $6000 because someone at Daddy's saw a Series one listed on ebay for around $7000, he's knows price is too high, told him one just sold from Low End on Ebay for $3600

Interesting fretboard.

Looks like the pickups are incorrectly mounted.

There's a crack in the headstock that's not completely though!!  What does that mean?

A refret is not inexpensive.

In the pictures, the finish looks to be in good shape.  Nice looking bass!  Looks a lot like my '77.

You're right Dave, I see 4 screws on each Pup. I wonder if they are still adjustable?

I would imagine you could put them back the way there are supposed to be, if the shells aren't broken.  If the original screws are missing, new screws may need to be ordered.

There are issues, and I didn't plug it in, but acoustically, it has a really nice vibe. I think someone should try talking them down to a reasonable price. Plenty of years left in it.

These pictures also don't show some of the nice trim.
