Found this killing some time at work. (http://cgi.ebay.com/1978-Rickenbacker-4080-Double-Neck-Bass-Guitar-WHITE_W0QQitemZ300308862364QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar?hash=item300308862364&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50)
Is it me or do the first two frets on the bass neck look unplayable? Unless of course you have Spaghetti for fingers.
OO
Hmmmm, post number a coincidence?

The picture of the pegheads on http://www.rickbeat.com/ (http://www.rickbeat.com/) shows enough room:

Actually, it looks like the bass neck is straight and the guitar neck is tilted back. Even though it looks like there's no space from the front, I think there's room for the hand. Of course, this probably makes for a case nightmare.

HMM, this picture looks a lot different than that one. Shorter scale guitar maybe? (or longer bass or both even)

I think it is perspective, Olie. If the guitar neck does angle back, then the straight on view won't look like the pic from an angle. Look at the pic in the listing that is straight on from behind.
-
I do believe you are right Bob.
Odd how camera angle changes ones perspective on it. These two pix are a fine example.

I just found out myself from a Ric doubleneck owner that the two necks are angled differently.
If you wanna see unplayable frets:

WOW Harry! That looks like someone insinuating a bass player doens't need to be playing solo's or lead fills.
-
I don't know, if that were the case, then they probably wouldn't have put the frets on to begin with! Instead, I enjoy considering the irony of using upright bass thumb position technique on a short scale instrument...
-
It'd be a trick for me. I have trouble enough with my upright. Compound that with horizontal position...
Fortunately for me Alembics are easy-access up there. I play quite a bit in the upper register.

Rick doubleneck...I hate those things.. : )

Dave, are those all your basses/guitars? If so very impressive collection
OO
-
Yes Sir.. They were.
The Ric section of my collection is always rotating. Some of them are now gone, other 4080?s now (not pictured) added.
-
Dave:
Wow! Very impressive! Are you married and, if so, how do you get senior management to let you acquire and keep your toys? And oh yea, do you by any chance have twins in your family! lol

Bill, the wife actually encourages me to buy vintage guitars.
She knows that I enjoy them.
Also, I don?t want to get into how they ?out performed? my stock portfolio. : (
-
Dave:
My better half still celebrates every time I decrease the collection (and gives me the look every time UPS drops off one of those big boxes). As I keep telling her, the guitars are my stock portfolio.

I can't believe it's not Photoshop! ;)
How long did it take you to acquire that many Rick double-necks? And how many were even made? I'm not sure I've ever seen one for sale, let alone...how many do you have?
-
Hey Fish, I'm going to convert that pic to a full-size poster and hang it in my studio over my puny two-Ric collection.
I remember a post of yours from several months ago on another thread that showed like 15 4001's of all different colors that you had...I was flabberghasted then, but I'm just plain stimied now. What's the full story, here, man???
