I must admit that I admire all Alembic instruments.

That is a very nice bass.  However, caveat emptor.

If you look at the pictures in an enlarged state, the neck pick-up has all 4 mounting screws on top and the pick-up housing is cracked.  The seller states that the bass has been maintained by the luthier to the stars - John Carruthers.  Well, clearly the luthier to the stars is not familiar with the Alembic pick-up mounting system.

Also, take a look at the machine heads - I may be wrong, but they appear to be Grovers, which leads me to believe they're replacements.

Things to be aware of by any purchaser.  Good catch on the pu crack Paul.  Some valuation adjustment.
I wonder what the reserve is. I guess we may know within 6 days 11 hours ;)

I sent the seller an e-mail inquiring about: 1) Is the original hardshell, or any case for that matter, included?  2) Inquired about cracked pick-up & incorrect mounting.  I'm very sarcastic by nature, but resisted the temptation to complement the fine work by the luthier to the stars...ahem.  3) Inquired about the machine heads - he states that they're Schallers, but they appear to be Grovers to me & henceforth, replacements.

thanks jimmy, that's a beautiful bass. i bid $725, because the pickup screws and the crack kind of scared me, meaning sending it in to the mothership/buying a replacement from the mothership. but the reserve wasn't met. that bass should still sell for a good amount, because of the coco bolo top but i'm not sure if i want to put the money into this just to buy some more pickups, but we will see in 6 days 9 hours ;-)
