Just saw this one at BassNW. The highest level of bass coolness. Next to Alembic anyway.

I haven't seen or heard of an alembic with a rosewood fretboard.

If it's genuine it may be of some use to someone making their own project bass

Alembic has made some instruments with Rosewood finger boards. The description of this one makes me wonder if it was a reject that walked away from the shop.

I know of one particular 1975 Series 1 Bass of which the owner has told me has a Rosewood finger board.

My '76 Series 1 guitar has a rosewood fingerboard.  IIRC, they're not that rare.

Hello Bill ,
                  What kind of rosewood might the fingerboard be on your 76?   Brazilian ? Indian ? or ???.  I am interested because I might acquire the 75 series 1 Bass and was wondering what types of rosewood Alembic used back then . Brazilian rosewood may still have been legal back then. What are your thoughts on this ?

You see the Alembic impact in the design, though. It's there in the wood configuration and in the electronics with a separate preamp for each pickup.

I have no idea how to tell the difference on a fingerboard, but my understanding is that Brazilian stopped being imported around '68 insofar as that's when Martin stopped using Brazilian.  As for Alembic's rosewood, you might try checking with Mica.

Are you talking about my Series I (75-251S) fretless with rosewood fingerboard?
 
By the looks of the piece of wood on ebay I imagine someone pulled it out of the bin.

     No , I am referring to a fretted long scale standard point  Series I (75-184 ) .  I did not know that your beautiful fretless was looking for new a home .

My bass is currently in hospital
 
I have curently got it in a squillion pieces
try to patch holes and hacks from abuse
caused by it's previous lover.
 
I am patching some of the walnut holes with a combination
of epoxy and walnut dust (courtesy of Mica)
 
She is kindly sending me over some Maple dust so that
should get here shortly. Then I can finish off the refilling.
I am in two minds whether to get a full refinish so  
in the interim I am doing spot/dab touch-up and shave and sand + buff on small areas at a time.
 
I need a new tailpiece but will need to wait for
that when I get a job. I will keep the original one though
for bringing it back to stock.
I am working out a design for a modded tailpiece.
 
I don't think I could ever get rid of my fretless.
