Looking very strange so I thought to mention it here.

That thing looks like it's spent some time in the bottom of a rowboat!!! I don't recall seeing round position markers on any other instruments... or pickup rings. That's a 3 pin XLR rather than a 5 pin. Hmmmmmm......
-
It does look strange...no oval inlays, different knobs, teeny horns...
-
If it was a '79 Series instrument, wouldn't you expect an exposed dummy coil?

This one has been posted at the Club before.
Here's the original thread about the bass (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=8457) (archived). On the non-archived part of the thread there's a response from Mica, but no actual confirmation whether it is an Alembic.
December 2003 thread (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=8369) showing some modifications by owner navybass, plus a posting in 2006 apparently by a new owner.
February 2004 thread (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=8398) showing navybass's inlay work on the peghead.

Could be an employee bass? I am a bit puzzled but it is rather interesting.

I went through the old threads: it's not altogether clear that this is really an Alembic. But assuming that it is, it would have started out as a SI. But to call it a Series instrument now is deceptive at best.

The seller sent me some pics. This bass has had a really rough life!!
