Title: The April 2011 Featured Custom is up
Post by: adriaan on April 02, 2011, 02:37:46 AM
You are in for a double treat with this month's featured custom, Refinement (http://www.alembic.com/info/fc_refinement.html target=_blank).

Just amazing how many individual touches can be thought of for a custom instrument (or two).

Congrats Will!

Awesome!!  I wondered how your bass was progressing- didn't know you were gonna sneak two of them in!

I KNEW their was a reason for getting up early on Saturday morning.

Congratulations Will on the well deserved and coveted featured custom. Or should I say custom(s)!
Will is quite adept at coming up with great ideas, (coupled with the wonderful folks at the mothership), for custom Alembic instruments!

Congratulations !    _______          I am impressed by the concepts in design both from the body shape and electronics content. The Essence and Series electronics package together make this a very important possibly precedent setting and important design model for future Alembic creations . Perhaps this could be a trend setter; I can see my self asking for this combo as well . My complements to Will Gunn for his choice in specifications and Alembic for the master craftsmanship and dedication to strive for cutting edge innovation and realization of these concepts. As Howard Huges might have said  it's  the way of the future .

 Sonics Regards,

Absolute Proof that Will has an encyclopedic knowledge of all things ALEMBIC:  As Mica pointed out, he's been playing them since the 70's.

For guys who don't wear a 44 Long like me, a Series package in one of the 'smaller' shapes makes a lot of sense.  But leave it to Will to dream up these two 'chopped and channeled' hot rods !

Will had explained to me that it just got confusing, ultimately, to run a S2 through a SuperFilter, as the two together offered so much resolution and duplication in a lot of ways, you could chase a tone for days.  So he left the 'Filter in the rack, ran gain/blend only on the bass, and it was off to the races.  Chrome parts, no LED's, no 1/4.

This somehow reminds me of the Street/Comp factory Porsches (think of the RS versions over the years) where there's lots of engine and suspension, but no AC or carpet or radio.  Built expressly for speed, like these two.

I bought my Elan from Will, and can not recommend him highly enough.  IF you're about to part with serious cash, he's EXACTLY the kind of guy you want to deal with.  And as you can see, he DOES know his ALEMBICs !

Terrific ideas and terrific axes, Will.

All the Best,

J o e y

I have thought about this set up for ages but never posted any opinion..here you have the sound of the bass without any filter colouration, it would be interesting to hear the sound without any EQ on the amp either so the pure sound would be heard.
