Hi all , if you know anything about bass guitars then you know about Alembics . This bass was custom built for a friend of mine in 1978 . It is a Series 1 with the serial number 1260 stamped on the top of the peg head . Its in its original blue case and was stolen from my garage in Wheaton . Its a rare piece thats easy to spot because of the deep gouges that were carved into the face and back by a vengeful ex-girlfriend as the story goes . If any one comes across it please call the police . If you dont want to deal with the cops please e-mail me and I will deal with it .

Three previous threads referring to this bass and its disappearance/recovery in 2004:

Oh yes, and it is still on the Alembic Stolen Instruments page (http://www.alembic.com/info/stolen.html).

Any pics? I hope it gets found.

There have never been any pics posted though soon was referred to several times.

My Carvin basses have a ID chip embedded so that they can be scanned if stolen. It is not a deterrent to a thief but it may help recover if I lose one

First I hope the bass is found. This is exactly why I play the old dean edge basses if I play out. I think they are awesome especially the price now the part about micro chipping a bass ( or anything for that matter) am I the first person to think of this? My cell phone can be tracked to within 500 feet and at most it would cost $700.00 to replace it. For a bass that costs 10 grand why wouldn't something like that be stuck in a notch between neck laminates? Mica? Alembic people? The carvin idea is nice but you'd still have to actually find the bass to scan it. Why can't Alembic basses be like sharks, you know? Stick a tag in them somewhere where they'll never know and you can turn on a computer and put in your ID number and a little searching and 30 seconds or so later BAM! You could see where (within 500 feet or whatever) it's at! If it were between neck lame no one is going to go digging for that! I think that's an awesome idea for people that can order a new bass. Poor people like me would have to wait for technology to trickle down for a used one but that's okay. If I'm first to think of it, you're welcome, maybe I get a discount? You can just email me from my profile. Thanks lol

lol... the scene from No Country From Old Men where Javier Bardem's character is cruising the drag w/ his geiger counter keeps flashing through my mind.... Might as well invest in a captive bolt pistol too!....

Mr. Wookie,
You are a scholar and a gentleman! A chip that would be active as long as the instrument had power would be elegant.
Better yet a death ray...

This (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawgiver_%28Judge_Dredd%29 target=_blank) made me think of high level security... Particularly Should an attempt be made by an unauthorised person to use the Lawgiver, it will explode in that person's hand. ;)

All fun aside, the bass is still listed on CL... I hope that it finds its way home again. Pictures sure would be a good thing.

Yea it's a poopy story just keep relisting it and spread the word. If it was taken from a garage it had to be someone that knew.

Doesn't Keavin (Serial #12) have a black box, I'm thinking a Nextel unit or something like that, mounted inside Old #12? Is that a GPS finder?
Bill, tgo

I never noticed the cool bit of shaping at the end of the fingerboard. Do you have any closeups of that Keavin?
