http://www.ebay.com/itm/Alembic-Bass-Guitar-1986-Spoiler-Vintage-/261037959140?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cc71327e4. Seller is new to eBay and I never feel warm and fuzzy when I see an Alembic with no detail of origin and no serial number. What do you folks think?

This is a relisting. A couple months ago it was listed and I asked him how a bass could be in EXCELLANT condition with missing pot knobs.
He told me he would get the knobs. Apparently, after two months, he's still looking for them!
MIN = $2300.00.....BIN = $3000.00???
I don't think so....

Looks fine to me. (though a bit overpriced)
The knobs are an easy fix. Likely just a guy who happened to come upon an Alembic, possibly not knowing that there is an online group of people out there who take Alembics more seriously than most people take their wives or girlfriends, and therefore doesn't realize how appalled and critical we may get based on the simplicity of his auction.

Admittedly, it is a rare 5 string Spoiler but I would only give about $2000 and that's in excellent condition with everything present

It's late, and my eyes are tired; so maybe that's why I think the pot shafts look a bit unusual. If anyone is considering this one, it might be a good idea to ask for a pic of the control cavity.

I agree with Dave. I'm not sure those pot shafts look right. I agree that missing knobs are no big deal, but they make me wonder why they are off in the first place. Are these the original electronics?

upon further inspection, I noticed what Dave and Bob are talking about. here's a zoomed in screen shot of the knobs.

Well, it does have deluxe purpleheart neck laminates, a bridge block and a flame koa top as upgrades, but where did the Q switch go? On a Spoiler, it would be mounted closest to the bridge, where this one has a pot. All parts sticking out appear to be pots, and I wouldn't expect them to have plastic shafts.

@ sjhoffma....well said! A balanced perspective I need to be reminded of....

Bottom line---too risky without major electronic deets. And, as mentioned, show me the control cavity.
If it has to go to the Mothership for a major refurb, the price just dropped big time ~~~
