Check out  this one (http://www.ebay.com/itm/1988-Alembic-6-String-Electric-Guitar-EMG-Active-Pickups-S-88STR4756-4-/171044028156?ssPageName=ADME:B:WNA:US:1123).  Not quite a California Special.  And look at the tailpiece with fine tuners.  Is this by Alembic?

There is a request on it in the sn/history request section. It does have an odd serial number. Looks a lot like a Calif. Special from the front and an Electrum from the back.

Bill, that fine-tuning tailpiece is a Schaller item.
 
It IS rocket science:  SOMEbody put string trees on the peghead face !
