Title: '75 Series I Koa 2x 5 pin connectors
Post by: Enzo on October 10, 2015, 07:24:27 PM
Found this Series I pointer shape in a Guitar Center in OH. Tree of life inlays, 2 connectors and 3 strange dots maybe covering 2 holes used who knows for what?  Very nice example. http://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/ALEMBIC/Vintage-1975-Series-I-Bass-Koa-Electric-Bass-Guitar.gc (http://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/ALEMBIC/Vintage-1975-Series-I-Bass-Koa-Electric-Bass-Guitar.gc)

This bass is Andy West preowned bass.
Top wood is not Koa, it is Zebra wood.
The bass was found on eBay 2012.
It had polyphonic PU for synth drive on near the front of bridge PU. But now it is missing.
Ex.connector was assembled for it, that I think.

I found this pic. It looks pretty ratty and could use a good cleaning, but the bass seems okay.

No tree of life inlay, but the selector was already missing the knob, the hex pickup is intact and Andy West appears to only have four fingers on his left hand.

I found this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ny837E635D0 target=_blank)...but it appears the bass has been replaced with a young Jodie Foster

I don't know for sure when the Tree of Life was added but my guess is it was when the neck was repaired after breaking on tour in the early 80's.

Andy talks about the bass  here (http://www.andywest.com/alembic.html).

It also appears having mid/late '80s pickups with 'Alembic' engraved on them.

Ahh, Michael O'Donoghue.  Loved his work in the Lampoon and on SNL.  He left us far too early.

Read an interview once where Lorne Michaels described M.O'D.'s sense of humor:

They're sitting around when Michael gets a call from his dad - Michael, I'm afraid I have some bad news; your mother lost her toe.

Michael, without missing a beat - Did you look behind the refrigerator?

That was typical O'Donoghue.  Weird and bleak but _incredibly_ funny.
