Hi Bro's and Sis's,
Blue Stuff -where yours truly is keeping pace at low frequency zones- is gigging in Caf? l' Is 't Waar in Oud-Heverlee on Sat 24 febr 2007
More: we are going to record the show to CD (in a more or less professional way).
And there is more more: we are working at a website -at last- that will be active in the upcoming months!
This is a teaser

An idea for the first page!
CU soon

Let us know when the CD is out Paul. Will Bonnie be making an appearance?

Snif-snif ...sob ...snobbel ...bouhaaaaaaa ...snob-snif sob ...bwei-ei-eih.
No -sob- she is still in -snif- Holland!
There is no time anymore left to get her over!
I didn't play her in about 7 months.
So ...it will be the A-bass to do the job (which is -by all means- partially Alembic so ...kinda ok!)
I'll keep you posted!
Paul T-snif-B-sob-Oouwaaaaaaaaahhhhh

Sounds like a whole other story in there somewhere paul.

Hehehehe
That's my Keavin!
Well ...that's Bonnie indeed!
Aside her is the absolutely FANTASTIC ladysinger in a band I played in before (beware ...I liked her singing, she was quite a character!!!!).
Jacko the story is simple: my trusted Bonnie was TOUGHT to have an electronic failure and I brought her to Edwin (Van Huik - www.connectionbult.com (http://www.connectionbult.com) : the Alembic importeur this side of the pond).
Happily nothing was wrong and she is in absolutely good hands (and showing off in Edwins store in Hilversum)
Unfortunately nor Edwin nor I were able to get to each other to make the return of Bonnie possible!
It's sad because I KNOW she would love to contribute to this recording!
She is rather jealous as you probably know!
Hehehehe

I'm thinking of going over to Amsterdam for my wedding anniversary in june. Hilversum doen't look too far to go for a visit. Just need to convince Mrs J she wants to look at nice Basses ;-)
graeme
-
I even have a better idea!
Just hop over to Belgium and be my guest!
It's only about 250km.
Belgium is more fun (hehehehe)
PTBO
-
Amsterdam is pretty close to Hilversum (from an Alembic point of view).
Paul, not to take anything away from Belgium, but just about any place is more fun than Amsterdam.

just about any place is more fun than Amsterdam
Wow... I guess all the stories we've heard on this side of the pond are fabrications. Hmmm.
Personally, I have only been to the airport in Amsterdam where I got off a plane to pick up the rental car and drive to Volendam/Edam for business and I always thought that Amstedam had to be more fun than those places... maybe if I hadn't been working?

Amsterdam is GREAT!!
It's beautiful, unique, interesting, energetic and laid back at the same time.
The city centre of Amsterdam appearantly has enough outstanding universal value to be nominated for being added to the World Heritage List of UNESCO.
I just love the vibe of the city and I think it's one of the world's most fun and unique cities. Definately worth visiting!
...and yes, Edwin's Bass Connection is close by....
Duncan
-
Duncan, one man's heaven may be another man's hell. Unique, yes. Special places to visit, yes. But the vibe just doesn't seem to agree with me.
Plus you don't want to know what circles of Ons Soort Mensen (Our Kind Of People) have a say in the Unesco World Heritage List.
-
Of course I totally respect your gut feeling about the city, Adriaan. Indeed it is very personal. I was merely stating my view to balance the scale a bit...
Back on the subject: looking forward to hear your CD Paul!
Btw, I did see Bonnie at Edwin's shop. I recognized it instantly, even before knowing you brought it over to him. So she's just sitting there with the sold sign on it... Listen, if you need someone to take Bonnie out of that shop for a stroll, I would gladly pick it up ;-)
Duncan

Paul
I am looking forward to the CD. Please keep me posted. Will there be sound samples on the website? I have to agree with you about the Drive singer. She's got a perfect blues voice.
Sam
-
Hi Friends,
about Amsterdam!
I agree with Adriaan that someone's heaven can be someone's hell!
Seen my ab-so-lu-te-ly charming personality (hehehe ...I know ...I AM bad nevertheless) I would gladly welcome friends and club-members from over the pond, channel, border or all over the world in my humble home!
Bonnie ***sigh*** I will get her back very soon I hope! I hope someone is playing her from time to time ...
The show/recording went well ...I was told! I don't judge myself on bass-playing but I am quite sure there were some points in the show I completely messed up a bass-line.
Oh well ...that's life (and live) I guess!
Yep ....sound smaples will be available but not downloadable for legal reasons.
As soon that I have pictures ...they will be here and on the site to come!
Cheers!
Paul the bad one!

A general question about Amsterdam, would a non-dutch speaker manage or is it best to have at least a working knowledge of the language?
graeme
-
The place is full of tourists the year round, so really no need to speak Dutch. If you do, they'll hear you're a foreigner, and won't let you, because they want to show off their English. Which for most people means doing word-by-word translations from Dutch, which can lead to interesting turns of phrase. So prepare to be bemused.
-
Hehehehehehe ...well said Adriaan.
Same thing over here you know.
With a difference that all Flemish people speak English. Walloons (french speaking Belgians) don't. You cannot see at face-glance if someone is french speaking!
Best advice ALWAYS start speaking English! No prob!
Paul TBO
-
Paul, thanks for the heads up. Is the Flemish half to the west of Brussels?
Sam
-
Hi Sam!
(and other travel-eager friends)
See this map:
What is yellow colored is Flemish speaking = Flanders, Green is Walloon country and French speaking. The blue dot is Brussels and bi (multi) lingual.
The dark-green zone on the right (east) is German/French speaking.
Of course when operating on the language border you will be confronted with facility zones (we like to make it complex ...huhuhuhuh).
But ...for you rest of the world out there: please don't try to show off your ability to speak french in a flemish zone (quite some Americans and Commonwealth people do so). To a certain degree people will be embarassed! By all means: speak english/US/Australian ...whatever. Without meaning to brag but most of the time we'll manage to speak english better than you trying to speak french.
In the south zone (green) ...well ...good luck I would say!

Paul
Can you do it again with a dot at Sint Joris Weert? I haven't been able to find it on any map I've had access to.
-
EDIT: With all those commas in the hyperlink to Google Maps, the forum software gets a little confused ...
Try Google Maps (http://maps.google.com target=_blank) and do a search for Sint-Joris-Weert, Vlaams Brabant, Belgium.
(Message edited by adriaan on March 05, 2007)
-
That did it, thanks Adriaan.
-
Cool, thanks Adriaan!
-
Hey Paul,
I once had to play in a place called Jodoigne, not far from Sint-Joris-Weert I believe. Nice area, but finding it was such a hard thing to do after dark, during a winter. It was snowing. Some of you dutch and belgium folks may remember snow. White cold stuff they threw on the road to make it slippery a couple of years ago. Here's a picture @win van Huik once send me about our extreme winters.
And about Amsterdam, once you have parked your car, Amsterdam is great.

Hehehe
Well ...now you know where I live!
IFF not try this link:

By the way www.viamichelin.com (http://www.viamichelin.com) is still the best for me for you over-the-ponders. For those in Europe use www.viamichelin.fr (http://www.viamichelin.fr)
So ...welcome friends!

PS: you can zoom in and out the map. So take a look at my back-yard ...

Nice backyard Paul, while zooming in, there's a train coming up. Is it yours, the good ol' TBO Express? We all come over this weekend, how many clubmembers do we have?
Manfred
-
Actually I live 100m from a railway station (small one) but that means that -with some patience and hopping from train to train- you can get to TBO even from Kualalumpur ...mmmm ...but those trains from over the pond ...euh ...well
Can't you guys swim???

Hi friends,
thanks to our beloved moder Dave I can offer you a link to landing space here http://home.earthlink.net/~davehouck2/paulstune.mp4 (http://home.earthlink.net/~davehouck2/paulstune.mp4)
You can listen to Me my guitar and the blues a Sherman Robertson song we interpreted on the famous live concert/recording.
ATTENTION: THIS IS A TEMPORARY LINK ONLY ACTIVE FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS.
Just for you fans out there who want to take a peep in advance
Paul the bad one
-
Very nice paul ;-) The recording quality is superb, especially like the way the bass is well up in the mix. How was it done? we've been trying to get a decent live recording of big tuna for a while but it always comes out Bass-light.
Graeme
-
The bass was recorded direct link out of the F1-X. Setting after SF-2 so it's colored.
Each instrument on his channel. Guitars miked. I don't think the guitar had a DI-box too.
It was recorded via a Mac-pro book to a external harddisk.
Afterwards mixed and I have to admit that I had a good sound with the A bass in the first place.
Paul TBO
-
Graeme;
This probably isn't it, but I thought I would mention it just in case. On some boards there is a low frequency filter switch on each channel that rolls off starting at around 50Hz (especially useful on vocal mic channels). If the person running your PA has that switch turned on for the bass guitar channel, that might result in bass-light output. Just speculating.
Also, if you are micing the bass cabs, make sure you're using a mic with a flat low frequency response curve. Lots of mics roll off on the lower end of the band.
-
And hop ...moder Dave did it again!
I learned something!
Paul TBO
-
Me too. thanks Dave (and paul). Guess i'll have to spend some time tweaking next time we record anything.

Brother Paul!
Great track, how's the CD and website coming along?
Sam
-
Brother Sam!
Slow ...slow ...what I presented here is 1 of the 12 tracks that made it to the CD.
I am gathering info for the website but my colleagues are not th?t co?perative now. NOT that they are lazy or so but it is the work/music/promotion combination that is a bit hard to do now!
I am glad that you like the track!
Paul TBO
Friends please listen because Moder Dave warned me: the ftp-space is limited in time!
Of course there will be occasions when the website will be finished
-
I couldn't believe it but the link is still working (see some posts more upwards)
Thank you Moder Dave!
So for you friends who want to hear a little something of us playing please do!
As you know: Bonnie couldn't make it that moment but this is A and she is half Alembic (chuckle)!

Wow, Brother Paul!! - I downloaded your track a few days ago and finally got around to listening to it on my computer that has decent speakers.
I love it!! Very tasty blues. I hope you don't mind, but it's going into the mix on my iPod. Let us know when a CD is available - I'll bang some beer bottles on the table, then get in line to buy it!
Peace
Tom
-
I love Blues. One of my top two favorites to play. Funk being the other.
-
Danno; it's an mp4. If you have Realplayer, try that. Also, if you have something that plays m4a files, you can change the extension to that.
-
Thanks Dave, pasted the url and viola! Great bass tone Paul. Full, round with just a hint of bite.
-
Bro Paul,
fess up (confess). I'm pretty sure I heard some walking bass going to IV...

Hi gang,
BTW we're going to do an experiment with this band by adding a horn-section! Just for 6 songs we have to play for a special occasion!
Now THAT will be fun!

lookin' good brother Paul. Playing with a horn section is one thing I'd love to do. See if you can get it recorded.
