Title: Oasis Guitar
Post by: bword on August 29, 2011, 11:28:31 AM
I'm not sure where the proper place to post this would be but....

I recently stumbled upon an Oasis guitar at a local shop and have been trying to find more info. about these instruments. So far I know that Gary Cooper was the luthier and he made these in the mid 70's to early 80's. The one I discovered it a double cutaway with a highly flamed neck and ebony board. I am unsure of the type of wood used for the body and neck. It looks like the body could be mahogany and the center piece of the neck looks like maple though I'm not sure about the outer pieces. The body has dings all over the top but it's nothing too gruesome. The neck and body do seem to be unfinished. I'm guessing this guitar was oiled. The neck is binded but the body is not. The body does have the deep routing/carve around the edges. The asking price is about $1800 and I think I'm going to jump on it this week. I'm not sure what these usually go for but this seems to be a reasonable price considering the guitar looks and feels amazing (have not plugged her in yet). Any additional info. anyone could provide about these instruments is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Hi Brad, welcome to the board!  In the top righthand corner of the page is a Search link to search the site.  Oasis guitars have been discussed here before, so you should find some past discussions.

Just glancing through some of the past threads, it looks like they had passive electronics and Hi-A pickups.

There's a nice example of an Oasis bass in this thead (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=18393).

You lucky dawg!  I've been looking for an Oasis guitar for several years now.  If it's in decent condition, I don't see $1800 as being out of line.  Congrats on your find (and if you decide not to get get, or do get it and decide to sell it, let me know!)

Hey Thanks Bill!
I'm picking her up this weekend. I am going to play it for a month or so to see how I vibe with her. I will definitely let you know if she's not a good fit. Stay tuned!

THANK YOU!

I always wanted to know what kind of bass that Cool Bell of Cool and the Gang was playing.

Hello All!

I am sad to say that I must part ways with the beautiful Oasis already since my car is finally giving up on me. It's heartbreaking really. I must say goodbye to my first car that I've driven for 10yrs and to my new love that I've driven for mere weeks.

I'm sure one of you (or someone out there!) will give her a great home. It might be a week or two for me to get the pics up but I wanted to give you guys a heads up. I'm not sure how to go about selling as of now. I'd rather give faithful Oasis/Alembic lovers a chance to purchase than some opportunist on Ebay. But we'll see what happens I suppose.

Thanks again for all the info. guys. It's a truly sad time. I just hope I see one again later in life.

-Brad

Brad; I hope your financial and transportation issues get sorted out soon.  Sorry to hear that you have to sell the guitar.  If you haven't found it yet, our For Sale section would be the place to list it if you want to put it up for sale here before listing on Ebay.

Yea, I know.  I was recovering from Halloween - the one night of the year where you can scare the bejeezus out of kids and not get arrested for it!  Our house was zombie central!

Haha nice post Bill. Thanks for the kind words Dave. When it rains it pours!

Sorry I'm slow to get pics up and start the bidding process. Work has been crazy and I don't have access to a computer at home. I will have everything ready by the end of this month.

Keep rockin'!

Bill,

One year, when I was a kid, my pops put a dummy on the front porch with a crazy halloween mask for the face. Then, Halloween night he put on the dummy's clothes and mask and sat on the porch. Since most of the neighbors were used to seeing the dummy all October they had no clue it had been replaced by my pops. I'll never forget watching him slowly reach out and grab the kid that lived across the street. The kid literally pissed himself. It was hilarious and sad at the same time. He also scared quite a few tough teenagers. Great times.

That's just about what I've done the last three years, though I haven't done the dummy part ... yet!  Thanks for the idea.
