I played my first gig on an Alembic yesterday at an outdoor party/mini festival in Marin County. The gig went off without a hitch, and afterwards, five different musicians approached me separately to compliment my tone.

Glad it went well for you. How did you find the tone from your own perspective?

I loved it.

I have the preamp set a little hot, ran it direct into a Demeter VTBP-M-800D, and out through a Barefaced BB3.

Finger-style, everything was clear, round and glassy. With a pick, I could get just the right amount of breakup when I pushed it.

There's a reason I haven't been playing my other basses, I guess.

How long have you had that Demeter?  I have been going back and forth between a Demeter VTBP-201-800D and a Mesa 800D.  They're both fabulous amps.  Both are outstanding when paired with Alembic electronics.  I've been curious about the other Demeter options.

I still remember doing my first full evening with an Alembic bass.  I couldn't wipe the smile off my dumb face.

I got it around six months ago, and love it. It sounds great, there's a ton of tonal versatility, and it weighs nothing.

Surprised it is light weight, '79 basses are usually pretty heavy.  Is it a small body short scale?

I meant the Demeter. The Series I is the Walnut medium scale I've posted - it's about 10.5 pounds, which feels fine to me, as long as I've got a 4" wide strap.
